RARE WW1 GERMAN ARMY 98/05 MAUSER SAWBACK BUTCHER BAYONET & SCABBARD JA HENKELS

Offered is an original WW1 era German S98/05 Mauser sawback 'Butcher' bayonet & scabbard by J A Henkel of Solingen.

Bayonet features steel fittings overall, with Waffen stamps to birds head pommel with working external release button, screw-in wooden grips and metal guard & partial muzzle ring. The 36.5 cm long swollen steel blade shows some field sharpening to blade edge, cleaned with some pitting, with blade being in generally good condition overall. The sharp sawback edge measures 27cm long and is in excellent condition. Ricasso maker stamped for J A Henkel of Solingen, being heavily polished. Standard metal scabbard with throat removed for better fitting, in very good original shape, with period dark brown leather belt frog. The blade fits very nicely into the scabbard. Overall length: 52cm.

The bayonet was designed for use with the 7.92 mm Gewehr 98 bolt action Mauser Rifle, being one of the main service rifles of the German Army pre and post-WW1.
