Description

For sale is a genuine WW1 German Army 98/05 Mauser ‘sawback’ (removed) butcher bayonet, scabbard & leather frog.

Bayonet features pitted steel fittings overall, with remains of Waffen stamps to birds head pommel with working external release button, screw-in wooden grips and metal guard & partial muzzle ring. The 36.2 cm long swollen steel blade shows some field sharpening, cleaned, with some pitting, with blade having had the original saw back edge period removed. Ricasso maker stamped for Mundlos & Co, Magdeburg, being retailed by Gebruder Hartkopf, Solingen. Standard metal scabbard in very good original shape, with modern black leather belt frog. The blade fits very nicely into the scabbard. Overall length: 52cm.

The bayonet was designed for use with the 7.92 mm Gewehr 98 bolt action Mauser Rifle, being one of the main service rifles of the German Army pre and post-WW1.
