RHODESIAN GENERAL SERVICE MEDAL 1968-80 PR19053 RIFLEMAN C P WALMSLEY

Description

36 mm wide circular cupro-nickel medal with clip and ornate scrolled ribbon bar; the face with the full-face portrait of Cecil Rhodes; the reverse with the arms of Rhodesia; impressed named to PR19053 RFN C.P. WALMSLEY; in exceptionally fine condition, on original ribbon.

The medal was instituted in1968 to be awarded to members of the British South Africa Police and other Rhodesian security forces and military for participation in the Bush War against the Zimbabwe National Liberation Army and the Zimbabwe People’s Revolutionary Army. The medal ceased to be awarded after the independence of Rhodesia as Zimbabwe in 1980.
