Major Stanley Lambert was born on the 29/4/1870 at Islington, London. A Chartered Accountant by trade he first served with the City of London Yeomanry (Rough Riders) as a Gentleman Quartermaster 1902. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant 1/2/1907, Lieutenant 13/11/1908. He reappears in the August 1914 London Gazette under Territorial Forces Reserve, to be 'Lieutenant', dated 23/7/1914.
His service papers record 'passed' Machine Gun Course & 6 years Machine Gun Officer London Brigade. Also he was the Adjutant at Gunnery School, White City'.
Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve 11/11/1914, promoted Lieutenant Commander (Temp.) and posted to the armoured cars as ‘G’ Officer. It is unknown what date he landed at Gallipoli as whilst eight cars came ashore in May and were based near Pink Farm, Officers and men from the armoured cars were on the River Clyde on the 25th April (Lambert was not on the ship). 4th May 1915, he received a shrapnel wound to his left leg which also caused a compound fracture of the Tibia. He was evacuated to England being hospitalized at Chatham 14/6/15 and was unfit until 11/10/1915 and was attached for armament duties with the R.N.A.S. at Eastchurch. 12//6/1916, transferred to Headquarters Staff at Dover Air Station, serving as Armament Officer. 8/10/1917, transferred to Manston. Posted to the Royal Air Force and appointed Major in May 1918, Lambert served brief spells in Paris and Berlin with Headquarters Staff, finally relinquishing his Temporary Commission on 6/9/1921, his address 'Junior Naval & Military Club, 96 Piccadilly W'
The 1939 census records him as a retired Major R.A.F. and living in London
