Scarce First World War German Naval ‘Donald Duck’ hat. Navy blue wool base, showing National cockade to crown, with sewn silk cap tally ‘4. I. MATR. AARTILLERIE: ABTL. I. 4.’ (accompanying paperwork shows this to be 4th Company, 1st Division Sailor’s Artillery Battalion). No moth to body and interior shows economy sweatband and red silken interior, with gilt maker stamp to centre. Approx. size 55. An exceptionally rare piece of headgear, which rarely appears for sale.
