VICTORIAN ERA BRITISH ARMY GRENADIER GUARDS OFFICERS SWORD & SCABBARD
$1,445.00

***SOLD***
Offered is a Victorian era (1837-1901) British Army Officer's Grenadier Guards service sword.
This 1827 Pattern sword features a wire bound fish skin grip, mounted onto a half chequered back strap and pierced bowl guard, featuring the Grenadier Guards cypher. The nickel finish overall is very good to outer & inner bowl and retains the white leather and bullion knot.
The picquet weight blade has battle & laurel leaf etchings running 1/2 down the length of both sides of the 82 cm slightly curved blade. Very good etched royal arms and motto's running along both sides of the blade, including the crowned royal cypher & battle honours, which include Waterloo, Peninsula, Corunna, Lincelles, Alma, Inkermann and Sevastopol. Etching is very good for age. The blade is maker marked for Cater & Co of Pall Mall London. The Battle Honours present would date this sword as being from the 1870's, as there are no Egyptian Campaign honours featured on the blade.
The nickel plated service scabbard is in good serviceable condition, retaining both suspension rings.
Generally, a very well cared for/used sword. These picquet weight swords seldom come up for sale and adding to this, the age and condition of this sword would make this a very nice piece to add to your collection.
