***SOLD***
Original Boer War Queen's Mediterranean Medal to Angus Macleod, who served with the 3rd Battalion of the Seaforth Highlanders on Garrisson & Boer War Prisoner Guard duty during the Boer War. Queen's Mediterranean Medal with original ribbon. Correct impressed named to: 4097 PTE A. MACLEOD. SEAFORTH HIGHRS: Very good condition overall, with one small scratch to eye line of bust, with great patina overall. Comes with a copy of his medal entitlement from the award roll. Only 817 of these medals were issued to the 3rd Battalion. This is a much rarer medal than the standard QSA medal awarded for Boer War Service 1899-1902. This medal is identical to the Queen's South Africa (QSA) Medal except the inscription 'SOUTH AFRICA' on the reverse is replaced by the word 'MEDITERRANEAN'. No clasps were authorised for this medal. The ribbon is the same as for the QSA. The Mediterranean Medal was authorised by King Edward VII and awarded to volunteer and militia troops who had replaced the regular troops in garrisons across the Mediterranean and who guarded Boer prisoners. Approximately 4,951 medals were awarded.
