C. 1800 British Yeomanry Cavalry Officer’s sword & scabbard by Henry Osborn. Gilt finished lion mane pommel, with a stirrup hilt, with plain langets & quillon. Hatched ivory grip, showing some age cracking, with 3 small chips to border. C. 1800 British Yeomanry Cavalry Officer’s sword & scabbard by Henry Osborn. Gilt finished lion mane pommel, with a stirrup hilt, with plain langets & quillon. Hatched ivory grip, showing some age cracking, with 3 small chips to border. The 76cm long curved slashing blade shows etchings of trophies of arms & laurels, with small amounts of the original blue and gilt finish to both sides, the remainder of the blade shows use and wear, with some light pitting spots and a few minor field cuts to lower blade edge. The leather & brass scabbard retains both suspension rings with leather crazing and a very old/period slash hole to left side centre. The leather scabbard, with the maker dedication ‘H. Osborn Sword Cutler & Belt Maker To His Majesty, Birmingham & Pall Mall, London’ to reverse upper locket. Lower portion stitching has separated, however the scabbard is in a good, sound condition which could easily be repaired. A good rare sword, rarely seen for sale. Overall length: 90 cm.
