VINTAGE SWEDEN HIS MAJESTY THE KING’S ROYAL SERVICE MEDAL GUSTAF ADOLF

Original Swedish Royal Household Medal. Features a 31mm wide circular silver medal with Swedish Crown suspension; the face with the head of King Gustaf VI Adolf facing left and circumscribed ‘GUSTAF VI ADOL F SVERIGES KONUNG (Gustaf VI Adolf, King of Sweden; the reverse plain; on mounted original ribbon. The King’s medal was instituted in about 1814 and was formerly exclusively a Court or Royal Household medal. Today it is presented to Swedish and foreign citizens for special merit and important service to Sweden and to officials of the Royal Court for long and faithful service. Since the Swedish parliament passed a ludicrous law in 1974 that Swedish orders can no longer be conferred on Swedish citizens, this is now Sweden’s highest award for Swedish citizens.
