Offered is a British War and Victory Medal (1914 – 18), impressed named 295395 PTE. W.A. NORRIS. W. SOM. YEO. Court mounted for display and come with copies of M.I.C. and medal roll.

William Arthur Norris served with the 1/1st West Somerset Yeomanry, unfortunately his records do not appear to have survived the ‘Blitz’. It is known that the 1/1st served at Gallipoli however as Norris is not entitled to the 1914-15 Star, he would probably have joined the regiment when it was serving in Egypyt in 1916.

In February 1916, it was placed under orders of 2nd Dismounted Brigade in The Western Frontier Force.

On 4/1/1917, when stationed at Moascar it was converted into infantry and became 12th (West Somerset Yeomanry) Battalion of the Somerset Light Infantry. Placed under orders of 74th (Yeomanry) Division. The yeomanry was re numbered in 1917 and he received the new service # 204409.

The 12th Battalion was deployed to France landing on 7/5/1918, where it remained for the remainder of the war. He was demobilised on 10/3/1919
