John Thomas Toomer enlisted at Blackboy Hill 20/4/1915 and was allotted to the 6th Reinforcements of the 11th Battalion. He arrived to Gallipoli on the 4/8/1915 and was wounded in the shoulder and head with shrapnell just two days later (“Leane’s Trench” during the Battle of Lone Pine), being evacuated to the 1st Australian Casualty Clearing Station, then hospitalised with a compound fracture to the skull, being returned to Australia 17/9/1915, discharging in Perth 20/11/1916, having been hospitalised there for some 12 months. He died in Perth in June 1951.
