Unfortunately It would appear that Sergeant Staggs records did not survive the ‘blitz’. But what is known is that he was born 6/9/1881 in Leeds. The 1911 census records him working in the newspapers, he was probably a pre-war territorial as he landed in France on the 15/4/1915 as a Corporal with the 7th Battalion West Yorkshire Regiment, with a service number 1821, he was given the new number of 265197 but remained in the 7th Battalion being disembodied on the 19/3/1919. The 1939 census records him as a widower and working a s a newspaper despatch hand.
As the medal bar is missing the 1st medal it is probable that Sergeant Stagg served in the Boer War or was possibly awarded a bravery medal.
