WW1 & 2 GROUP OF 5 BRITISH MEDALS IN ISSUE BOX WITH WW2 FRENCH CROIX DE GUERRE

Offered is an original WW2 medal card box issued from the Air Ministry. (Royal Air Force) containing 1939-45 Star, Africa Star, France & Germany Star, Defence & War Medals. All un-named as issued. 1939 French Croix de Guerre with bronze palm (Mentioned at Army level).; London City Council "The Kings Medal", clasp 1913-14, impressed named on rim A. LEWIS.

The 1939-45 Star is awarded for service between 3 September 1939 and 2 September 1945 for a period of six months (180 days) operational service for RAF non-air crew personnel or a period of two months operational service for air crew personnel.

The Africa Star was instituted by the United Kingdom on 8 July 1943 for award to British and Commonwealth forces who served in North Africa between 10 June 1940 and 12 May 1943.

The France and Germany Star was instituted by the United Kingdom in May 1945 for award to British Commonwealth forces who served in France, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands or Germany and adjacent sea areas between 6 June 1944 and 8 May 1945.

The War Medal 1939-45 was awarded for 28 days full-time service in the Armed Forces between 3 September 1939 and 2 September 1945. Operational and non-operational service may be counted, providing that it was of 28 days or more duration.

The Defence Medal was awarded for non-operational service in the Armed Forces, the Home Guard, the Civil Defence Service and other approved civilian services during the period from 3 September 1939 to 8 May 1945 (2 September 1945 for those serving in certain specified territories in the Far East and the Pacific), with an earlier end date for members of organisations that stood-down before May 1945.

The Croix de Guerre may be awarded either as an individual award or as a unit award to those soldiers who distinguish themselves by acts of heroism involving combat with the enemy. The medal is awarded to those who have been "mentioned in dispatches", meaning a heroic deed or deeds were performed meriting a citation from an individual's headquarters unit.
