Gallipoli veteran medal and document group to 966 Private John Milburn, 28th Battalion, Australian Imperial
Forces.
Group comprises of the following items:
1914/15 Star: 966 PTE. J. MILBURN 28/BN. A.I.F.
British War & Victory Medals: 966 PTE. J. MILBURN 28 BN A.I.F.
Medals mounted as worn and come with the ribbon bar.
Gallipoli plaque & lapel badge named to J. Milburn, in the case, packing box and with letter of issue.

966 Private John Milburn was born in Tooradin, Victoria in 1892. He enlisted at Blackboy Hill on the 6th May 1915 and was allotted to ‘C’ Company of the 28th Battalion (Western Australian) Australian Imperial Force. He was a Sleeper Hewer, so most likely working on the new railway networks in Perth/Midland. He embarked from Fremantle on the 29th June 1915 aboard HMAT Ascanius (http://www.awm.gov.au/people/rolls/R2013046).
He reached Gallipoli 4th September 1915, to hospital in Lemnos 4th December 1915, returned to duty 1st January 1916. To France 16th March 1916. To hospital with Trench Foot 20th January 1917. To England. Transferred to the 70th Battalion (South Australian & Western Australian ‘Pup’ BN ) A.I.F. 8th April 1917. 70th disbanded and returned to 28th Battalion 26th August 1917. Returned France 21st January 1918. Wounded in Action (Gun Shot Wound to the right forearm) 2nd September 1918. Most likely during advance operations around the Canal Du Nord. To England for treatment. Returned to Australia 31 March 1919. Discharged 27th July 1919.
