WW1 AUSTRALIAN ARMY MEDALS 35641 GUNNER F T MATHESON 14TH BATTERY 5th FAB AIF

Offered is a British War and Victory Medals (1914 – 18), impressed named 35641 GNR. F.T. MATHESON. 5.F.AB. A.I.F. Swing mounted for display and come with copy service records and N.S.W. Police Gazettes.

Frederick Thomas Matheson was born on 22/7/1892 at Woollahra, Sydney, New South Wales. An electroplater by trade, he was serving in the Militia with the Garrison Military Police when he enlisted into the A.I.F. on 18/12/1916. He had been appointed a Special Constable on 19/7/1916 (N.S.W. Police Gazette). He was assigned to the May 1917 Reinforcements for the Field artillery Brigade with the service #35641. He embarked from Sydney bound for Glasgow, landing on 2/10/1917.

He landed in France on 30/11/1917 marching into the 2nd Division Artillery D.A.C. he was posted to the 5th Field Artillery Brigade (14th Battery) on 17/12/1917. The 5th F.A.B. was part of the 2nd Australian Divisional Artillery. He served with the battery until 31/3/1919 when he was posted to 4th Field Artillery Brigade.

He returned to Australia on 20/8/1919 for discharge on 19/9/1919. He remained in NSW until his death on 4/5/1956 in Sydney.
