William Novis was a pre-war regular with a regimental number of 6/381. He landed in France 23/10/1914 it is probable that he was a time expired soldier recalled as the 3rd Battalion Rifle Brigade had landed on the 12/9/1914. At some stage he was transferred to the Labour Corp with a regimental number of  473677. Numbering range 400,000 – 500,000 Transferred into the Labour Corps Dec/Jan 1917. He is entitled to the silver war badge which could have a bearing on his transfer, most likely as a result of wounds.
