Gerald Yare enlisted in the Royal Field Artillery, landed France post 1916 as he was not entitled to the 1914-15 Star. 19 was the minimum age that soldiers could be sent overseas so it is likely that he landed 1917 at the earliest. His military service records unfortunately did not survive the Blitz. However it is known that he was born 1898 in West Hartlepool. 1939 Register occupation recorded as “Labourer.” Died Oct 1960 Durham.

It is known that he was serving as a signaler with D Battery 242 Brigade (Batteries from Birmingham) when he was awarded the Military Medal. 242 (CCXLII) Battery Territorial Force were with the 48th Division from pre-war until 20 January, then transferred to Army command.

London Gazette No 62 Schedule number 221932 is for 'Advance to Victory' actions in the September - October 1918 range.
