Description
Offered is an original set of 3 medals, as awarded to Lance Corporal Frederick Jones, who served in the Essex Regiment & Machine Gun Corps during the First World War.
1914/15 Star, impressed named 2376 PTE. F. H. JONES. ESSEX R. War Medal & Victory Medal, impressed named 2376 PTE. F. H. JONES. ESSEX R. Medals court mounted for display & come with research paperwork.
Frederick ‘Harry’ Jones was born in Ridge, Shropshire in 20/11/1889. He served Gallipoli 26/1/1915 with 7th Battalion, Essex Regiment. He transferred to 54/Machine Gun Corps 20/6/1916 (the 54th Battalion was formed 13/2/1916). Also served 17th/M.G.C & 54/M.G.C. Discharged 22/7/1919. Medals were sent to his address at 34 Fraser Rd, Walthamstow. The 1939 Census shows him living at Rose Cottage, Little Common St Martins, Oswestry, Shropshire – ‘Widower’ and employed as a County Council Road Labourer. He died and was buried at Birmingham, Handsworth Cemetery in 1961.
