Offered is a WW1 Victory Medal impressed named 9284 A.W. O.CL 2. E.A.DUFF. M.G.C.; Brass MGC shoulder title with backing plate & 2 x brass WO2 rank badges with backing plates. Comes with copy Medal Index Card & Medal roll.

Sergeant Ernest Arthur Duff probably landed France in 1916 as he is not entitled to the 1914-15 Star & as per the medal roll Sgt Hammett with a MMG regimental number 9291 was commissioned 6/11/1916. He would have landed with one of the battalions of the Kings Royal Rifle Corps, his regimental number being R/6609 which was one of the New Army regimental numbers. He transferred to the Machine Gun Corps with a new regimental number of 9284 with the rank of Sergeant, but saw duty as an acting Warrant Officer Class 2 (Company Sargent Major) and discharged to the reserve 2/2/1919.
