Description

Offered is a 1914 – 15 Star, impressed named L-2269 DVR:R. SMITH. R.F.A.; British War and Victory Medals (1914 – 18) both impressed L-2269 GNR. R. SMITH. R.A.; French Medaille Militare engraved named 2269 SG^T R. SMITH. R.H.A. Court mounted for display. Comes with copies of M.I.C. and medal rolls.

Driver Richard Smith served in the Royal Field Artillery (service number L/2269), landed in France 28/11/1915, possibly with one of the ‘Pal’s Divisions’.

It is probable that his service records survived as he was still serving post-war, if so they will be held at the M.O.D. What is known is that he initially served as a driver and later remustered as a gunner.

He re-enlisted 14/8/1919 into the Royal Army Service Corps with the new number ES/58933 (ES = Supply. Post-war reenlistment A.S.C) Discharged 11/10/1919 but further served in the Royal Army Medical Corps (service number S/10064).

He is also entitled to the General Service Medal (1911 -62) with clasp Iraq, the note on the roll for the qualifying unit was R.A.S.C. but he is on the R.A.M.C roll.

To qualify for the medal and clasp he would have served in Iraq 10/12/1919 – 17/11/1920.
