Frederick George Kunhardt was born 29/7/1882 Stellenbosh, South Africa and was commissioned in the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment in 8/5/1901. Following active service in South Africa with the 1st Battalion/No.2 Malta Company, 9th Mounted Infantry, he transferred to the Indian Army in November 1903. He was an early aviator & qualified for the Royal Aero Club's certificate (No. 363) in November 1912, piloting a Bristol Biplane at the Bristol School, Salisbury Plain. Served 39th Garhwal Rifles & 74th Punjabi Regiment during the First World War, hospitalised with Appendicitis January 1915 (Queen Alexandra's Military Hospital, Millbank). Promoted Major (L.G. 22/5/1917) & Lieutenant Colonel (L.G. 24/6/1927). His M.I.C. lists him as 'Wounded'. The 1919 Indian Army Officer's list shows him as a Company Commander with he 74th Punjabi's. Travelled to Sydney, Australia in 1926 (solo as Lt. Colonel I.A.). Listed 1939 Census as Lt. Colonel, Indian Army (retired) residing with his wife and widowed sister at  Summerhayes Abney Court, Wycombe R.D., Buckinghamshire, England. Died aged 73 in Surrey, England.
