Offered is a 1914 – 15 Star, impressed named 14644 LCPL G.S. DAWSON. C.GDS.; British War and Victory Medals, impressed named 14644 SJT. G.S. DAWSON. C.GDS.; medals all in exceptional condition, virtually untouched, with all original silk ribbons. Original card boxes of issue with original medal slips named to L/Cpl and Sjt G.S. Dawson. C.Gds. Comes with copies service records, M.I.C., medal roll 1911 & 39 census.
Sergeant George Stanley Dawson, was born January 1890 in Boston, England, the 1911 census records him working in Lincolnshire as an ironmonger. He enlisted with the Coldstream Guards 4/1/1915 at Caterham. Promoted to Lance Corporal 28/5/1915 posted to the 4th (Pioneer) Battalion Coldstream Guards 17/7/1915 and promoted to Corporal.
Landed in France 15/8/1915 with the Battalion being further promoted L/Sgt 17/8/1916, Sgt 31/1/17. At the end of the war the Battalion was disbanded and he was posted to the 1st Battalion C.G 18/2/1919 returning to England 5/3/19 and demobilised 14/4/1919. The 1939 census records him living in Wrexham working as a manger for ironmonger and with the volunteer fire fighting service.
The 4th Battalion was the Pioneer Battalion to Guards Division. 2/2/ 1918 to 4th Guards Brigade, 31st Division. 29/5/1918 the 4th Guards Brigade was posted to GHQ Reserve.
The Pioneer Battalion only existed 1915 – 1919 when it was disbanded.
