Offered is a WW1 era German Army officer sword, having been converted to a candlestick holder. Classic 1889 pattern lion head sword, retaining ruby set stone eyes, lion head pommel and maine backstrap, retaining some original gilt finish. Black composite grip with wire wrap, decorated langet showing corps of artillery, with short length of blade, with fittings for conversion to candlestick holder. Overall measures 290mm high. Sad but true, these lovely swords were cut down and sold off post WW1, many sold to tourists or retained for use in the regimental messes of the drastically reduced Weimar era Reichswehr.
