Offered is an original early 1900’s to First World War era German Order of the Zähringer Lion, with Oak leaves, Commander Grade – Military.  Medal features a 40mm wide silver filligree cross, with bronzed crossed swords, with green enamel cross arms, with central painted Zähringen castle in ruins, with roped brass border. The reverse, with central silver cross and red enamel field with brass rampant lion, with filigree design within cross arms. The 3 branched set of burnished brass oak leaves forms the central suspension ring, which hooks through the suspension loop of the cross. Comes with a short length of the original silken neck ribbon. In overall very good/excellent condition. For special awards, the order was granted with oak leaves and from 1866 could also be awarded with crossed swords for military services.
