Offered is a WW1 German Iron Cross First Class. This piece was made during the First World War, with the makers details stamped to the reverse. The cross features a black enamel core centre, showing very light service wear with central 'W' motif for King Wilhelm II (the last Kaiser of Germany), the date 1914 to base (the first year of the war) and the royal crown atop. The piece is the flat variety, with thich spear pin and hook to reverse, with the stamped details 'CD 800' makers mark (Carl Dillenius of Pforzheim) to the centre of the reverse of the cross. The '800' value refers to the cross base being made from 80% silver value. The cross arms measure 44 mm across. Rare to see these silver crosses, much sought after by collectors.
