Warrant Officer Class 1 Richard Triggs was born in February 1870 at London, a butcher by trade, he enlisted into the 17th Lancers at Hounslow on the 6/8/1891. He served with the regiment in England until 5/9/1905 and was with the Regiment when it deployed to India. He served in India until 24/12/1914 when he returned home again to serve until 5/3/1920. He finally discharged after completing nearly 29 years.
Triggs was promoted to Shoeing Smith 1/1/92 and Corporal Shoeing Smith 9/1/94, Sargent Farrier 9/2/94, Staff Sargent Farrier 9/2/97. Farrier Quarter Master Sergeant 13/10/10, W.O. CL 2 24/6/1918.
Also entitled to the Meritorious Service Medal.
His son Richard V. F. Triggs served in France with the 17th Lancers from 8//11/1914 and survived the war to claim his own long service medal.
