WW1 MEDALS LIEUTENANT J R JENKINS 2ND BN CHESHIRE REGIMENT SALONIKA

Offered is a British War and Victory (1914 – 18) Medal group, impressed named LIEUT. J.R. JENKINS. Court mounted for display and comes with copy M.I.C., medal roll, newspaper article, 1911 census and London Gazette extract. Lieutenant John Reginald Jenkins was born in 1884 Malpas, Newport, Monmouthshire, Wales. The 1911 census records him working in the same place as a schoolmaster. He was granted a probationary commission into the 3rd Battalion Cheshire Regiment from the ‘Special Reserve of Officers’ 24/7/1915. His rank was confirmed, but was still on probation London Gazette 10/4/1916. The 3rd Battalion was a training unit, which remained in UK throughout the war, providing drafts for other battalions. He Joined the 2nd Battalion Cheshire Regiment in Salonika on 8/11/1916. The 2nd Battalion was part of the 84th Brigade, 28th Division. He married 31/8/1918 in Penrith. His father Edward Jenkins being a clerk in the Holy Order. He claimed his medals on 3/6/1922 with the address being Malpas Vicarage, Newport.
