Stoker Petty Officer John Honey was born on the 5/1/1897 in Earlsfield, London. A railway clerk by occupation and a small man at 5’2”, he enlisted into the Royal Navy 14/5/1915 as a Stoker 2nd Class.

He served on a variety of H.M. ship and shore bases including Pembroke 14/5/15 – 13/10/15, Dido (Depot ship for the destroyer Lucifer) 14/10/1915 – 30/11/1916. Pembroke II 1/12/1916 – 10/1/1917 and 7 days cells. Dido (Depot ship for the destroyer Lancer) 11/1/1917 – 7/3/1917. Attentive (Depot ship for the Lancer) 8/3/17 – 16/3/1917. Pembroke 17/3/1917 – 2/7/1917. Dido (Depot ship for destroyer Stork) 37/1917 – 31/1/1919.

Post war he served on the Marlborough, Hecla (Depot ship for the destroyer Vivian), Vindictive, Marshal Soult, Enterprise, Scimitar, Valiant & Sussex. Promoted Senior Petty Officer 15/11/1925. Pensioned to shore 20/5/1937. Recalled for WW2, he served on the following H.M. ship and shore bases Speedwell (Halcyon-class minesweeper) 15/6/1939 – 1/10/1939. Badger (Shore base) 1/10/39 – 1/3/40. Boscawen (Shore base) 1/3/40 – 7/5/41. Lulworth (Sloop) 4/6/41- 1/8/41. Ferret (Shore base) 1/8/41 – 23/12/41. Pembroke II 23/12/41 & released from service 8/10/1945.
