Offered is a 1914-15 Star and British War medal to Senior Sister Frost, who served in France with the QAIMNS from 6/4/1915, invalided home due to war service & died in April 1919.

Ada Mary Talfourd Buchanan was born in 1869. Her father was James Buchanan, a “Clerk in Holy Orders’. She commenced her nursing training in 1995 -1898. In 1904 she joined the Army Nursing Service Reserve. She married in 1914 at Sheffield aged 46 to Robert Frost a retired 54-year-old Police officer. Her records were ‘weeded’ in 1935 and numerous documents are missing. She landed in France on the 6/4/1915 with the Queen Alexandra’s Imperial Military Nursing Service. A re engagement form for 25th June 1915 is in her file, however it is signed when she was in France. She served with the 18th General Hospital, 24th General Hospital, 6th General Hospital. She was returned to England sick in 20/4/1916, but re-joined 30/5/1916 France to the 5th Staff Hospital, 14th Staff hospital but evacuated to England sick in 17/8/1916. She was medically discharged on the 30/12/1918 due to war related illness, but died on the 10/4/1919. A letter in her file stated she intended to emigrate to Australia to be with her sister. This could explain how the medals came to us in Perth.
