WW1 Royal Navy Medals to T.H. Paddy who served on the HMS Mona’s Isle.

For sale is a 1914 – 15 Star, British War and Victory Medals all named L.7547 T.H. PADDY. O.S.1 R.N. They come with copy of service record. Thomas Henry Paddy was born in Bermondsey, London, England in 1888. Pre Great war he was working as a waiter when he enlisted into the Royal Navy on 15/10/1915. He served on HMS Mona’s Isle (net-laying ship for anti-submarine work) from 16/11/1915 – 6/9/1918 as an Ordinary Seaman. Her most noteworthy mission was to the wreck of a Dutch steamer that had been torpedoed and sunk beyond the Cork lightship off the southern Irish coast. It was known that the Dutchman had been carrying bullion, and the net-layer acted as base ship for the salvage operation. Gold valued at £86,000 was recovered. He served on HMS Kinfauns Castle (troops ship) from 7/9/1918 – 21/11/1918. He discharged time expired on 31/3/1919.
