Description

Offered is a WW1 medal trio, as awarded to Acrting Corporal R. Barker, who served with both the Lancashire Fusiliers & Machine Gun Corps during the First World War and who was wounded during the Battle of the Somme in 1916.

1914 – 15 Star, impressed named 2368 PTE.- A.CPL. – R.BARKER. LANC.FUS.; British War and Victory medals impressed named 2368 PTE. R. BAKER. LAN. FUS. Period swing mounted as worn. Comes with copies medal index card, medal rolls, 18^th General Hospital admission record Sept 1916, 164^th M.G Coy war diary September 1916 and baptism record.

Robert Barker was born in 1892 at Bury, Lancashire. He enlisted with the 2/5^th Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers and was given the service number 2368, the Battalion was formed at Bury 9/9/1914 as a home service unit. However, the Battalion and Acting Corporal Barker landed in France on the 3/5/1915 as part of the 154^th Brigade 51^st Division. The Battalion transferred to the 164^th Brigade 55^th Division 7/1/1916 and at some stage Barker transferred to the 164^th Machine Gun Company (which was part of the 164^th Brigade). He was wounded in the leg 24//9/1916 during the battle of the Somme. In 1917 he received the new service no 23734. Barker survived the war and discharged 2/3/1919.
