Henry John Thomas Mears?was born on the 22/1/1904 at Canterbury, Kent. ?A gardener by trade he enlisted into the Royal Navy as a boy seaman on the 25/6/1919.

He served on a variety of H.M. ship and shore bases including: Powerful, Impregnable, Ganges, Vigilant, Royal Oak, Cleopatra, Erin, Raleigh, Royal Sovereign, Calliope, Marshal Soult, Kent, Vanquished, Fortune, Cumberland.

WW2: Cochrane (depot ship) Valorous (V-class flotilla leader destroyer) 25/8/1939?H.M.S Valorous was conducting convoy defence duties in the North Sea and Northwestern Approaches.

Discharged 26/10/1945 and died in Darlington, Durham 1967.
