L.A. SANDFORD. A.A.F. Swing mounted with matching miniatures; Card box of issue (2); London City Council ‘The Kings Medal’ X 3 with clasps 1911-12, 1912-13, 1913-14, all impressed named L. SANDFORD. : Card box for The Kings Medal. Comes with copies of family tree and London Gazette extracts Flying Officer Leonard Alfred Sandford was born on 7/7/1903 in Kensington, London. The 1939 census records him employed as an automobile engineer manager. It is unsure when he joined the R.A.F. but he had attained the rank of Sergeant when he was gazetted as a Pilot Officer on 18/1/1944. Promoted to Flying Officer 4/5/1944. Granted the Air Efficiency Medal on 7/6/1951 with his unit recorded as Auxiliary Air Force. He relinquished his commission on 10/2/1954 and died on 15/1/1993 in Petersfield, Hampshire. The London City Council ‘The Kings Medal’ was a medal issued to school children for regular and punctual attendance.
