Offered is an orignal Women’s Volunteer Service Civil Defence uniform badge. Retains pin/hook to rear & maker marked for L. Simpson of London. Measures 21.5mm x 30mm. The ‘ARP Women’s Voluntary Services’ for Air Raid Precautions was established in 1938 to prepare for the onset of war. By February 1939 the title was amended to ‘Women’s Voluntary Services for Civil Defence’. They assisted during the 1939 evacuation and eventually involved themselves in most aspects of the home front war effort. Utility regulation came into force circa 1941 and enamel was replaced with red painted finish.
