WW2 ERA GERMAN FORESTRY OFFICIAL’S DAGGER, SCABBARD & KNIFE J A HENCKELS SWORD

Description

Offered is a rare 1930’s era German Forestry official’s dagger by J. A. Henckels of Solingen.

The dagger features all gilt finished brass fittings, with an elaborate urn pommel with acorn ‘spike’, deer horn grip, with 3 inlaid acorn and oakleaf studs, the grip sitting atop an ornate grip spacer and opposing quillon hoof cross guard, fixed clamshell guard, all showing hunting scenery, with deers, dogs, forest scenery and oakleaf patterns. The 33cm long nickel blade is brilliant, without any issues, with just in and out wear, which is light. The blade features etching panels to both sides, the first showing the hunting expedition, with hunter, dogs hunting and attacking wild boars, whilst birdlife and other animals look on within the forest. The opposing panel shows the hunt for deer, with the hunter taking aim at fleeing deer, within the forest, whilst birds flee. The original green buffer pad is present, next to the maker mark for JA Henckels Solingen, with trademark to ricasso. The blade is superbly finished with a filigree etched spine. The brass and black leather scabbard retains the acorn frog stud, ’12’ stamps to locket and chape, with full stitching to reverse of the lightly patterned leather body. The skinning knife is of brass, deer horn and with a 11cm long nickel blade, which fits into the scabbard recess port. Overall length 53cm.
