Offered is a Royal Navy Medal group to Able Seaman H. Stanley, who served in WW2 fighting in the Burma & Italy Campaign. He remained in the R.N in 1956 to take part in Operation Musketeer, which was the British/French occupation of the Suez.

Medal bar includes 1939 Star, Burma Star, Italy Star, War Medal 1939 – 45, Naval General Service Medal (1915) with clasp NEAR EAST., impressed named D/JX 555096 H.STANLEY A.B. R.N., all others un named as issued. Original period swing mounted as worn.

Sources vary as to the number issued 17,800 – 20,500. The British deployed some 66 major warships, 38 lesser vessels (landing craft etc) and others all up about 180 ships. This was the last major naval operation that Britain has been able to launch on such a large scale. The medal roll for the N.G.S.M clasp Near East is not available presumably destroyed by the M.O.D.
