Offered is an original Shanghai Municipal Council Emergency Medal 1937. Bronze, un-named as issued, with?obverse showing the flags of the international community in Shanghai. In a circlet the legend SHANGHAI MUNICIPAL COUNCIL. The reverse is plain except for an embossed wreath inside of which can be read the following inscription FOR SERVICES RENDERED AUGUST 12 to NOVEMBER 12 1937. The medal is suspended by bronze rings. The ribbon is red with two thin verticle edge stripes of gold and a central verticle stripe of white edged with black. Very good condition. Measures 38mm wide.

It was awarded to the Volunteers, Police and civilians who had participated in keeping the international settlement safe during the Japanese invasion of China and the Shanghai district in 1937.
